HOUSE REPAIRS 101 – Put a Tool Kit Together (Part 1/8)

We all know that most homes don’t come with instruction manuals. Without a doubt, those little emergencies are bound to happen with home-ownership and NEW homeowners, especially, may not be equipped to deal with them…

We have compiled a list of BLOG posts addressing some typical tasks that all homeowners should learn to handle. It surely does not cover everything you will need to know about your house BUT it’s a great place to start…

  • Put a Tool Kit Together (Part 1/8) Today’s Blog
  • Find the Water Main Shutoff (Part 2/8)
  • Restart a Garbage Disposal (Part 3/8)
  • Reset the Electrical Power(Part 4/8)
  • Unclog a Toilet (Part 5/8)
  • Put out a Grease Fire (Part 6/8)
  • Change Your Air Filters (Part 7/8)
  • Open Garage Doors With No Power (Part 8/8)

The following MUST-HAVES should be in every new and seasoned homeowner’s tool kit: curved-claw hammer, an adjustable wrench, needle-nose and standard pliers, slotted and Phillips screwdrivers in a couple of sizes and a pair of safety glasses.

An electric drill and a set of twist bits are also invaluable. Cordless drills are definitely convenient but may not offer enough torque to handle those heavier jobs. If you start with a corded drill, you can pick up a convenient cordless model at a later time to use for those lighter jobs.

Investing in good-quality tools that feel comfortable in your hand is worth every penny. Take care of them and they’ll last for years.
