Younger Gen Y/Millennials – Born 1990-1998
- 11% of 2019 home buyers
- 40% considered commuting costs to be very important
- 71% felt convenience to their job influenced their neighborhood choice
- 86% were first-time home buyers
Older Gen Y/Millennials – Born 1980-1989
- 26% of 2019 home buyers
- 42% had student debt
- 52% were first-time home buyers
- 81% found their home with a mobile app
Generation X – Born 1965-1979
- 24% of 2019 home buyers
- 16% bought a multi-generational home
- 47% looked online for properties as a first step
- 56% bought in a suburb or subdivision
Younger Baby Boomers – Born 1955-1964
- 18% of 2019 home buyers
- 12 median number of weeks spent home searching
- 35% felt heating and cooling costs very important
- 53% had credit card debt that delayed saving for a down payment
Older Baby Boomers – Born 1946-1954
- 14% of 2019 home buyers
- 19% bought in a suburb or subdivision
- 30 median miles between new and previous home
- 47% bought due to retirement
Silent Generation – Born 1925-1945
- 7% of 2019 home buyers
- 27% bought to be closer to family, friends or relatives
- 29% purchase senior-related housing
- 34% will never move as they are in their forever home
